With the NCAA ending the recruiting dead period on June 1, the summer should be a busy month for programs like Memphis.
From camps to official visits, for the first time in over a year prospects will finally be able to visit programs on campus and see their potential future coaches face to face.
One of the best defensive backs in Texas has already set up an official visit to Memphis in June.
Three-star safety Jaidan Scott is scheduled to visit the Tigers from June 4-6. The Pearland, Texas native explained why he’s so eager to get an up close look at the Tigers.
“Coach (Charles) Clark has been in contact with me a lot, I know he’s a good coach and I’ve been talking to coach (Ryan) Silverfield lately. He’s just been keeping in touch lately,” Scott said.
The 2022 safety helped lead his high school Shadow Creek to 16-0 record and a Texas 5A Division I state championship as a sophomore.
This past season Scott produced 50 tackles, six pass breakups and a forced fumble in 11 games. He’s played multiple positions in the secondary and feels like he could excel at any position at the next level.
“I’m all-around, I can guard (man-to-man), I can come down and hit. I can play corner also, I’m just an all-around defensive back,” Scott said.
Scott said he doesn’t have a preference between safety or corner and would be willing to play whatever position will help get him on the field fastest.
Listed at 6-foot, 180 pounds, Scott has a key set of factors he’ll consider before making his decision.
“It’s really where I know I’ll fit in at and where I’ll be most comfortable,” Scott said.
Kansas State, Kansas, San Diego State and Arizona State are the other programs that are challenging the Tigers for the No. 77 safety in the country according to 247Sports.
As for where Memphis stands among the schools vying for his services, Scott had this to say.
“They’re on top really.”
