Welcome to the dead period!
Summer league — it’s over. Training camp won’t start until next month. Yawn.
Fortunately for Grizzlies fans, it may be the not-so-dead period in Memphis. That’s because trades or buyouts could be looming, even if they are only minor ways to cut the roster down before the start of the season. So if you’re into that kind of thing, you might be in luck.
There are simply too many players for a 15-man roster, and Memphis added two more following the trade that sent Patrick Beverley to Minnesota. The Grizzlies will have to find a way to get players off the roster, potentially by buying players out, trading or waiving them.
Will Rajon Rondo be part of the team at the season’s beginning? Probably not. What about Sam Merrill? Seems unlikely.
It won’t be groundbreaking material. But there will certainly be more to come from before the start of October and the preseason.
More from your Insider:
Centers Steven Adams and Jonas Valanciunas are different players. The former has long been known as a dirty-work guy. The latter is a buckets-and-boards machine. But I’m struck by the similarities.
With the draft picks and rostered players resting, Shaq Buchanan led the Grizzlies to a win over the Clippers in the final summer league game.
The Grizzlies traded veteran guard Patrick Beverley less than two days after acquiring him.
