Welcome back to your Grizzlies Insider, where the season has begun and we deliver the latest NBA news and analysis straight to your inbox twice a week.
Ja Morant completed his first NBA All-Star weekend on Sunday in Cleveland, leaving northeast Ohio with memories that he will keep with him the rest of his career.
In advance of the event, The Daily Memphian traveled to Dalzell, South Carolina, for a three-part series on the star point guard, “Becoming Ja,” which was published last week. Multiple sections of interviews did not make it into the stories, so we’ve included them in this edition of the “Insider.”
The Daily Memphian: What was Ja’s personality like?
Dwayne Edwards, Morant’s high school coach: “You have to remember about Ja, he doesn’t really open up to anybody and everybody. He’s a lot more open now. But he had this thing where he had to trust you to open up to you. I was able to build the relationship where he would come to me if there was something really bothering him.
