Welcome back to the Tigers Football Insider, where we bring you the latest news and analysis from The Daily Memphian’s Frank Bonner II, Geoff Calkins and John Martin each week.

Caden Prieksorn’s breakout season was sparked by his big performance in Week 3 against Arkansas State.

Prieksorn, a former walk-on quarterback, felt he had a nice hold on the tight position about midway through the game. He finished with five catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns to help lift Memphis to a 44-32 victory.

“(The game at) Navy I did a little bit and helped contribute,” Prieskorn said. “Then Arkansas State just helped me build confidence within myself to know I can really do this and make this a future maybe.”

Heading to the NFL is the plan for Prieskorn but not before playing one more year at Memphis. The 6-5, 255-pound athlete led the team with 46 catches for 593 yards and six touchdowns. A strong year like that in today’s world of college football might have caused some people to wonder if Prieskorn would look to transfer to a bigger school.

The transfer portal has become a major piece of college football.

“It definitely is a crazy thing,” Prieskorn said. “You do good on this level people are going to try to come after you. My heart is in Memphis really and I just can’t leave Memphis. That was the end of the decision at the end of the day.”

Prieskorn said Memphis played a major role in allowing him to become the player he is today. The staff made him gain weight as soon as he got into the program and put him in position to earn a legitimate role on the team when his time came.

The Tigers didn’t have the record they planned for this year and Prieskorn wants to help change that for next season. While he uses next season to continue improving his game, he also wants to help the Tigers compete for a conference title in what he expects to be his final year as a college athlete.

“I want to be the leader of the team and just help everybody on the team get our ultimate goal next year,” Prieskorn said. “It’s to win the AAC championship and I feel like anything but that is just a bust. That’s my main goal is to win, honestly. Everything else will take care of itself.”

The choice to stay in Memphis was also a family decision for Prieskorn.

“I have family here,” he said. “My girlfriend and I have a son so that even plays a bigger role in it staying in Memphis.”
