How do you do, Memphis? Today is Thursday, March 30 — National Take a Walk in the Park Day. And it couldn’t have fallen on a better day. We’re expecting partly sunny skies and a high of 72, so get out to your neighborhood park and get a little nature therapy. And enjoy it while you can because the forecast for Friday is not looking good.
It’s also National Doctors Day, so here’s a little shout out to the folks who work long hours to keep us healthy. Thanks, docs!
During a Shelby County Commission committee meeting on Wednesday, Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert told commissioners that she’s “not going anywhere” and that “nobody asked anybody else to quit.” Halbert was responding to Commissioner Mick Wright’s call for her to resign amid a number of problems at the clerk’s office, ranging from a car tag renewal backlog to issues around the possible relocation of her Poplar Plaza office.
The Memphis Grizzlies rested most of their star players for Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers, which gave the team’s newest players a chance to shine. Granted, the Grizzlies lost, 141-132, but the game had plenty of highlights. One highlight: Ja Morant ditched his medically mandated black mask in the first quarter.
Plus, Carriage Crossing could get a makeover, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland confirms his pension plan for new police and fire hires and Lakeland gets a taste of the Philippines.
