If NBA commissioner Adam Silver’s plan was to keep Ja Morant out of the headlines during the Finals, it hasn’t exactly gone to plan.
Before the NBA Finals started last week, Silver’s long-winded answer about the future of the Memphis Grizzlies point guard spread throughout the sports media world.
“We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information since I was (first) asked about the situation,” Silver said on June 2.
“We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we made the decision, and I think the Players Association agrees with us, that it would be unfair to these players and these teams in the middle of the series to announce the results of that investigation.”
That was a response that many Grizzlies fans viewed as daunting. Many thought it would be the last comment until the league handed down some sort of punishment.
Then Silver – after noting specifically that he didn’t want this to be a talking point during the Finals – again made comment on the Morant situation on ABC Wednesday.
