The voters have spoken. And they have chosen Josh Huggins and Kaylin Sheffield as the final OrthoSouth fans’ choice high school basketball players of the season.
Huggins, a sophomore at Briarcrest, received 48% of the boys vote following an outstanding performance in the Division 2-AA quarterfinals against Chattanooga Baylor on Feb. 28. He scored eight of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and hit the game-winning free throws with 8.7 seconds left to send the Saints to the final four, 55-53.

Jordan Myles of Houston finished second at 29%. I’Zahvien Perkins of Whitehaven, Kevion Robertson of City University and Fayette-Ware’s Elijah Lowe rounded out the field.
Sheffield earned an impressive 71% of the girls total after a hot-shooting display against Collierville in the championship game of the district tournament. She made three of her team’s nine first-half 3-pointers and finished with 15 points in a 68-48 victory.
Sheffield is also the second straight winner from Bartlett, following Reaghan McAdory.
Tarrin Hill of Memphis Business Academy was a distant second, followed by Houston’s Kallie Marsh, Whitehaven’s Taniyah Hurt and Tatianna Woods of Memphis School of Excellence-Winchester.

Perkins, Marsh earn staff honors
Our staff opinions differed with the voters, and we’ll be honoring Perkins and Marsh as our OrthoSouth Grizzlies Players of the Week.
Perkins knocked down six 3-pointers as part of a 22-point night as Whitehaven beat Southwind, 66-56, in the district championship game. Marsh came through big for Houston in the district consolation contest, scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a 54-38 win over Arlington.
