The voters have spoken. And they have chosen Amelia Block as this week’s Daily Memphian spring-sports athlete of the week.
Block, a senior lacrosse standout at St. Mary’s, claimed 48% of this week’s vote to win over an impressive group of candidates. She scored six goals March 28 as the Turkeys won their seventh-consecutive match — a streak which is now up to eight — by defeating Ravenwood, 15-14.
Second place, at 16%, went to Collierville baseball freshman Brady Sumner who hit two home runs — one of which was a grand slam — and drove in eight in a 14-12 loss to Murfreesboro Siegel.

Sumner was one percentage point ahead of St. Agnes pole vaulter Claire Wetick in the final vote. Rounding out the field were Rihanna Rinkin (Bartlett track); Cole Photopulos (Briarcrest baseball); Gray Shatley (Harding track and field), and Clayton Naffziger (ECS baseball).
A new round of voting begins Monday.
