Welcome back to The To-Do List, where Daily Memphian staffers suggest their favorite events and activities for the coming week.

In this week’s To-Do List, we tell you where drinking beer can save a river and where adults can have a field day. 

‘Drink a Beer, Save a River’ at Flyway Brewing, Friday:

Beer tastes even better when it’s for a good cause. And at this event, 25% of the cost of every beer you drink will be donated to the Wolf River Conservancy and their efforts to protect our water. Plus, you’ll learn about the Memphis Zoo’s new urban wildlife research initiative, which has deployed more than 30 cameras across the city to better understand how wildlife are using urban green spaces. 5:30-7:30 p.m. Panel discussion starts at 6 p.m. Free. 598 Monroe Ave. More info here. — Bianca Phillips

Recess Reloaded at Mud Island River Park, Saturday:

Missing recess as an adult? Now you don’t have to. This adult field day features a mechanical bull contest, an obstacle course, rock climbing, a slip-and-slide relay, gladiator jousting (presumably without real blades) and more. There will be food trucks onsite, including one serving carnival food. And since this is adult recess, booze will be sold. You’re allowed to bring in lawn chairs and coolers with non-alcoholic drinks. 11 a.m.-6 p.m. $35-$45 (depending on how early you buy tickets). 101 Island Drive. Wiseacre’s 13th birthday celebration at Wiseacre OG, Saturday:

It hardly seems like 13 years have gone by since Wiseacre opened its first brewery on Broad Avenue and kicked off a local brewery revolution of sorts. But it has, and they’re throwing a party at that OG spot. There will be live music by Optic Sink, Melinda and Ibex Clone, and Wiseacre will release a special birthday beer. And for one day only, beer drinkers can “trade up” a six-pack of domestic, import or light lager for a free six-pack of Sky Dog in what’s being called a “Sky Dog Swapportunity.” (But what will they do with all that cheap, trash beer?) 1 p.m.-midnight. Memphis Roller Derby 20th anniversary bout at the Pipkin Building, Saturday:

It’s been 20 years since the founding of Memphis Roller Derby. And the derby is celebrating with a doubleheader. The Roe City Roller Derby will take on the B-Sides at 4 p.m., and then there’s an open-gender match with Memphis home teams versus Roe and JXN roller derby at 6 p.m. Plus, you can check out memorabilia from the past 20 years of Memphis derby in a little pop-up museum. 3-9 p.m. $15 for adults, $5 for kids, free to kids under 4. 940 Early Maxwell Blvd. More info here. — Phillips

The Narrows album release at Growlers, Saturday:

Local band The Narrows, which features three friends who met at Rhodes College, will release their debut album this Saturday. It’s called “Chris” and is dedicated to their late bandmate, Chris Daniels, who died earlier this year at age 21. The Narrows plays blues and rock with a “gospel-ly Southern” sound, which bassist Bella Frandsen owes to Daniels’ influence on the band. Meet the Author: Tim Disney on ‘The A.R.C.’ at Novel, Saturday:

Tim Disney’s new, satirical sci-fi graphic novel, “The A.R.C.: A Virus That Kills You When You Lie,” is about just that. It starts at a big conference, where a group of global elites has gathered to come up with solutions for climate change. But lies are told, and those elites are infected with the A.R.C. virus, which they then spread across the world. Because, of course they do. The Memphis Flyer’s Toby Sells moderates. 901 Day on Beale Street, Sunday:

Tuesday is Sept. 1, so you know, 9/01. And that means it’s time to celebrate Memphis, Memphis, Memphis, the beautiful land in the world. A few days before 901 Day, the City of Memphis is hosting its annual 901 Day celebration on Beale Street with live music by Marcella Simien, Black Cream, Doll McCoy, Da M-Town Band and many more local artists. There’s also a poetry reading from Memphis’ poet laureate Bria Saulsberry, a Prep Curry fashion show, something called Wing Wars with HGTV host Carmeon Hamilton and lots more. Opera Uncorked at Opera Memphis, Monday:

Opera Uncorked introduces Opera Memphis’ 2026-2027 Handorf Company Artists. They are Hallie Schmidt (soprano), Miastasha Gonzalez-Colón (mezzo-soprano) and Reece Ruhl (tenor). (By the way, Ruhl is from nearby Paragould, Arkansas.) Opera Uncorked tickets — which must be purchased in advance — include five wine (or mocktail) tastings paired with the artists’ voices. Handorf Company Artists typically participate in Opera Memphis’ 30 Days of Opera series, so you could treat this as a little preview before that begins on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
