The voters have spoken. And they have chosen J.D. Donaldson as the Daily Memphian’s high school football player of the week for Week 7.
Donaldson, a senior at Briarcrest, didn’t have the individual statistics of the other candidates this week. But his impact was huge.
He earned 50% of the total vote after taking a pass from Cayden Dixon and turning it into a 67-yard touchdown with just over a minute remaining in the Saints’ game against CBHS on Oct. 2. Dixon then found Kash Parker with the winning two-point conversion pass that gave Briarcrest a 29-28 and improved their record to 7-0.
Second place, at 21%, went to Westwood’s Dekacian Waters, who had some last-minute heroics of his own against Bluff City on Oct. 1. His 30-yard run with 50 seconds left gave the Longhorns a 32-26 victory and capped a terrific game that saw him score three other times while racking up 312 all-purpose yards.
Melrose’s Tavarco Jackson was third, followed by CBHS quarterback Nate Brick. Cordova’s Elijah Cochran, Corrian Johnson of Fairley and Southwind’s Khamoni Williams rounded out the field.
A new round of voting begins Monday.
