A proposed purchase of two Saint Francis hospitals in the Memphis area is now headed for legal proceedings.
The Federal Trade Commission essentially said: Wait a minute, this $350 million purchase by Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare will limit competition and could increase insurance costs.
The deal for Saint Francis-Memphis and Saint Francis-Bartlett had been expected to close before year-end.

The Stryker deal for Wright Medical finally went through, another instance where regulators closely considered competition in the medical device extremities market and required Stryker to divest other assets.
