It was a busy week for Memphis basketball, both for Tigers going to the pros and players coming to the Grizzlies.

The 2020 NBA draft was a virtual affair that showed college players at home with their families waiting for their name to be announced (and unexpectedly letting us see them at their most vulnerable and emotional). Former Tigers center James Wiseman was taken No. 2 overall by the Golden State Warriors, and forward Precious Achiuwa picked No. 20 by the Miami Heat.

And everyone welcome Desmond Bane, Xavier Tillman Sr., Killian Tillie, Sean McDermott and Jahlil Tripp to the Grizzlies.

Speaking of whom – check out the team’s new set of duds (“Soul City Edition”) and a baby giraffe named Ja Raffe. A delighted Ja Morant even went to the Memphis Zoo to meet his namesake. 

High school football is nearing the final stage of the postseason; some of the local schools have started the basketball season; and we revealed our boys and girls golfers of the year, coaches of the year and all-metro teams.
