We give a hearty salute to the Grizzlies, who lost to the Utah Jazz in the first-round NBA playoff series.

Now it’s time for the players to rest, the front office to regroup and the season dissection to begin. Before you know it, the NBA draft lottery and the draft itself will be upon us (that would be June 22 and July 29, respectively).

Newly crowned NCAA champion Rachel Heck, who won four state titles before going to Stanford, played in the U.S. Women’s Open, where she finished tied for 35th (alongside the likes of two-time major champion Lydia Ko).

We’re starting to look to the fall and football. That’s right. Football. St. Benedict has a new coach, turning to alum Joey Magnifico, who also played tight end at the University of Memphis.

The pandemic wreaked havoc on football recruiting, so another former Tigers player, Christian Johnson, has become part of the effort to help local high school players with a 7-on-7 league and get some of their talents on tape.

Memphis 901 FC got its first win of the season. One more road game, and then the home opener on Wednesday, June 16.
