Suburban Spotlight

Well, it looks like the vaccination sites for COVID-19 may finally move outside Memphis city limits and into the suburbs.

On Thursday, Abigail Warren, who covers Germantown and Collierville, learned that there are plans to open a vaccination location at Germantown Baptist Church, only a short distance from the border between the two suburbs.

Now, some people will say they don’t need a place to vaccinate out that way. That suburban people have easy transportation to drive anywhere for a shot. But it is hard to ignore the fact that the suburbs are part of Shelby County just like Memphis. And the initial time frame has had such public vaccination spots inside the Memphis limits.

Meanwhile, Omer Yusuf, our reporter for Bartlett, noted that the city has the lowest vaccination rate of all the municipalities in Shelby County, except Memphis. The big swing in these numbers have as much difference as rumors on how you can get a shot to ward off the pandemic. But as one official said this week, if tents start going up at Germantown Baptist, it will mean one of two things – either the big-top is coming to town or it is becoming a spot to get a vaccination shot.

If you fall in the right category, or know the super-secret code to move ahead of others because of the daily loophole. - Suburbs editor Clay Bailey
