The Week in Prep Sports

High school football season has arrived. And it will begin with Germantown on top of the local pile.

Coach Gene Robinson’s Red Devils are No. 1 in the preseason Dandy Dozen rankings thanks in large part to a deep and talented senior class. Germantown will begin its season at home Saturday with a game against its city rival, ninth-ranked Houston.

The top local matchup in Week 1 will see third-ranked Southwind travel to No. 5 Lausanne. At No. 7 is Whitehaven, where veteran coach Rodney Saulsberry expects this year’s team to honor the program’s storied legacy while at the same time making its own mark.

Elsewhere, fall sports got underway in Tennessee this week, and we need your help in identifying our top prep performers. Coaches and stat-keepers can send in their scores, highlights and top performers from each game by emailing jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or on X @johnvarlas.
