St. George’s has found the right man to lead its boys basketball program.

On Wednesday, the school officially announced the hiring of Anthony Hall. Hall, who was a college standout at Southeast Missouri in the mid-1980s, most recently was a volunteer assistant at Southwest Tennessee.

Among his other college stops was a stint at West Georgia, where he was an assistant under legendary former Ole Miss coach Ed Murphy. He also spent four years coaching the girls at Collierville prior to Southwest Tennessee.

Hall replaces Jeff Ruffin, who stepped down this spring after 16 seasons and more than 300 victories.

Elsewhere, the Daily Memphian will soon begin to roll out its spring sports postseason awards. In the coming days, be on the lookout for players of the year, top coaches and all-metro teams for baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and track and field. – John Varlas
