The Week in Prep Sports

There’s only one high school football game left to be played in Shelby County and it has a chance to be a history-making one for the home team.

On Friday, Bartlett hosts Brentwood in a Class 6A semifinal match-up. It’s the Panthers’ first time in the semis since 1999 and a victory would send them to the BlueCross Bowl for the first time in the school’s 96-year football-playing history. The championship takes place in Cookeville on Dec. 5 and will pit the winner of this game against either Maryville or Oakland.

If you prefer to take in some hoops, Memphis University School will be the place to be this weekend as the Owls host the Jerry Peters Thanksgiving Classic. CBHS, Briarcrest, St. Benedict and the hosts will be in action both Friday and Saturday in the event named for the legendary former coach who won more games than anyone in Tennessee prep basketball history.

As always, coaches and fans at the games are encouraged to Tweet or email their scores, highlights and top performers to @johnvarlas or jvarlas@dailymemphian.com.
