The Week in Prep Sports

‘Tis the season for trimming your college recruiting lists.

This week, two of the top local football prospects in the star-studded class of 2022 announced that they had narrowed down their list of possible college choices. MAHS wide receiver Cameron Miller pared his list down to a final six while CBHS running back Dallan Hayden, this season’s Division 2-AAA Mr. Football winner, winnowed his list to four. Perhaps not surprisingly, both players have included the schools where their fathers played their college football — the University of Memphis for Miller and Tennessee for Hayden.

In basketball, FACS remained undefeated with a victory over Tipton-Rosemark Academy, which entered the game also without a loss. Daniel Egbuniwe scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half for the Crusaders, who are bidding to reach the Division 2-A state tournament for the second year in a row.

Friday’s top game will be at Briarcrest, as red-hot freshman Cooper Haynes and the Saints host Lausanne, which defeated FACS in last season’s state title game. The Daily Memphian will be covering that one and coaches and fans at other games are encouraged to Tweet or email their scores, highlights and top performers to @johnvarlas or jvarlas@dailymemphian.com— John Varlas
