The Week in Prep Sports

One thing about the city of Memphis, you can find a good high school basketball player almost anywhere you look.

Possibly this year’s best under-the-radar prospect is Justin Morgan from Memphis Home Education Association. The 6-foot-6 junior possesses a knockdown jump shot, great court instincts and a growing list of mid-major offers, something not often seen in a home school player. He’s not lacking confidence, though, and his play so far this year puts him on equal footing with the city’s best.

Speaking of best, the top-ranked Class AAA team in the state, Houston, visits Bartlett on Friday. The Mustangs are coming off an impressive victory over nationally ranked Chantilly (Va.) Paul VI in a tournament in the Washington, D.C. area last week. The Panthers have played well lately too, knocking off previously undefeated Arlington a week ago before falling to unbeaten CBHS on Tuesday.

The Daily Memphian will be at that one as part of a busy night of action around the city. Coaches and fans at other games are encouraged to Tweet or email their box scores, highlights and top performers to @jvarlas or jvarlas@dailymemphian.com. — John Varlas
