The Week in Prep Sports

May is the time of the year when the pretenders are separated from the contenders. And few players in town are separating themselves from the pack right now more than RH Frankland.

The senior centerfielder hit a two-run home run on Wednesday to spark Houston to a 6-4 victory over Collierville in the District 15-AAA championship game. It’s Frankland’s third homer in the last week and continues a torrid hitting stretch that has seen him raise his batting average over 150 points since midseason.

The Mustangs next host White Station in the region semis on Monday with the Dragons traveling to Whitehaven.

Track takes center stage Saturday with Bartlett hosting the large class sectional meet that will determine who advances to Spring Fling. Running finals start at high noon.

As always, coaches, stat-keepers and parents are encouraged to send in their scores, highlights and top performers each night. Email jvarlas@dailymemphian.com or Tweet @johnvarlas  — John Varlas
