The Week in Prep Sports

Typically, Collierville and Houston are the fiercest of sports rivals. Likewise, there’s not a lot of love lost when Lausanne and St. George’s get together.

But soccer players from those schools — along with others — are setting school rivalries aside this summer to play for the Germantown Legends. The 04 team (players born in 2004) made history by becoming the first team from Tennessee to win the south regional tournament, a victory that sent them to this week’s nationals in Florida.

The team entered that tournament deservedly confident, but win or lose, their success is a boon to youth soccer in Memphis.

Meanwhile in football, another recruiting domino fell as Patrick Kutas of CBHS announced his commitment to Arkansas. The 6-foot-6, 295-pounder chose the Hogs over Florida State, Illinois and Oregon. — John Varlas
