Two seasons ago, the Overton basketball team muddled its way through a 12-13 record. Last year of course, the Wolverines weren’t allowed to play due to Shelby County Schools’ COVID-19 restrictions. This year, it’s a whole new ballgame. Coach Shelvie Rose has assembled a talented squad that is also long on confidence as it prepares to challenge the more established programs in the city. As Rose says, he’s “peacock proud and elephant elated.” He certainly has the horses. Speaking of talented athletes, three local football players will be in Nashville for the Mr. Football awards ceremonies on Dec. 7. Dallan Hayden of CBHS, Jamarious Brooks of Central and Cameron Miller of MAHS were named as finalists in their respective divisions this week. Basketball season is in full swing and coaches and stat keepers are encouraged to email their box scores, highlights and top performers after each game.
