The Spirit of Memphis shined recently as ceremonies throughout the area marked the 20th anniversary of 9/11. Similiarly, friends of the late Herman Strickland remembered his giving spirit with a Random Act of Kindness Day. Over at the University of Memphis, the Tigers put out a welcome mat for New Orleans basketball players affected by Hurricane Ida. Some high school athletes showed courage when a friend was at risk of drowning. And when Isaac Bruce became the first Memphis player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he said his time in the Bluff City “helped make me who I am.”
