Thanks to the more than 3,100 students and their teachers who completed our first virtual summer school, we have a rich source of pilot-test information about how to do virtual learning in Shelby County.

Even as we announce final decisions and protocols, I cannot assure you that it will not change again, because that is how quickly the virus impacts the information we use to make decisions.

As our new normal emerges, we must remember that SCS students are children first, and admonitions of “social distancing” go against the very notion of being a child. Students need authentic opportunities to interact with one another, be seen, and be heard and we commit to making that happen.
