ICU utilization up almost 5% since last week

Regional intensive care unit bed utilization is up almost 5% since last week, according to data from the state’s Health Resource Tracking System; acute care bed utilization is the same.
Ninety-one percent of ICU beds are being used, as of 5 p.m. Thursday, July 16, compared to 87% on Thursday, July 9.

Data is reflective of hospitals in Shelby and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee, Crittenden County in Arkansas, and DeSoto County in Mississippi.
Of the 401 patients in ICUs, 126 are COVID-positive and another 26 are under investigation for the virus, meaning that about 38% are COVID-positive or under investigation for the virus.
And 41 ICU beds are available.
Of the 2,248 patients in acute care, 228 are COVID-positive and another 96 are under investigation for the virus, meaning that about 14% are COVID-positive or under investigation for the virus.
And 238 acute care beds are available.
As of Friday, July 17, Shelby County has 408 more coronavirus cases and no additional deaths from the disease, the Shelby County Health Department reported.
Shelby County’s coronavirus total is now 15,678 cases and 233 deaths, according to the same data; 10,409 people are now considered recovered from the virus.
Those 408 new cases come from 2,734 tests, which gives the day a positivity rate of 14.9%.
In Shelby County, 168,254 coronavirus tests have been administered, with an overall positivity rate of 9.3%.
The Tennessee Department of Health reports statewide coronavirus data at 2 p.m. daily.
As of Thursday, July 16, the agency reported 71,540 coronavirus cases including 796 deaths, 3,497 hospitalizations and 41,250 considered recovered.
In Tennessee, 1.1 million coronavirus tests have been performed.
