Jason Matthew Hill, 40, has been identified by Tennessee Bureau of Investigation officials as the man shot and killed by Shelby County Sheriff's deputies Thursday in a hotel parking lot.

The officer-involved shooting occurred at 3:35 p.m. in the parking lot of the Garden Tree Inn, 6101 Shelby Oaks Drive.

According to preliminary information from the TBI, officials said deputies with the Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at the hotel when gunfire reportedly was exchanged between Hill and law enforcement.

“At least two deputies returned fire, striking the man, who died at the scene,”  TBI officials said in a statement.

Shelby County authorities have not released the names of the deputies involved in the shooting. SCSO spokesman Lt. Anthony Buckner said he did not when the names would be released.

Authorities said no hotel guests or law enforcement were injured in the shooting.

This is the second fatal officer-involved shooting in the Memphis metro area this year.

Abdoulaye Thiam, 20, was fatally shot by three Memphis police officers at a home in Whitehaven on Jan. 2.
