Memphis guard Jeremiah Martin received two weekly awards on Monday – the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week and the Lute Olson National Player of the Week for his performance in wins last week over Tulane and Wichita State.

Over the two games, Martin scored 80 points as the Tigers won at home over the Green Wave and defeated the Shockers on the road.

According to the release regarding the Lute Olson Award, the honor is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I player who had played two seasons with their team.

Among those who have received the weekly award this year are Ja Morant of Murray State, Jayden Gardner of East Carolina and Shizz Alston Jr. of Temple, the Tigers' opponent on Tuesday night. Mike Daum of South Dakota State, who the Tigers defeated earlier this season, has been recognized for the weekly Olson award twice.

Freshman and first-year transfer players are eligible for the Olson All-American team, but not player of the year recognition.

Earlier Monday, Martin, a 6-foot-3 senior from Mitchell High, was named American Athletic Conference player of the week, the first Tiger to receive the weekly conference award this season. Martin had made the weekly honor roll the previous three weeks.

On Saturday, Martin scored 37 points at Wichita State, 29 of them in the second half, to help the Tigers to an 88-85 win over the Shockers in Memphis’ biggest victory of the season.

His 43 points against Tulane earlier in the week was his career-high. Coupled with his 41 points in the second half at South Florida on Feb. 2, Martin became the first player in Memphis history to have two games of at least 40 points in a career.

And Martin did it over three weeks.

Over the past seven games, Martin has averaged 30.7 points. In addition to the 40-plus games against South Florida and Tulane, Martin has had games of 37 and 31 points in the span.
