Schools, health care, Medicaid: New Mississippi senator outlines priorities

Making history as the first Black and first female senator elected in DeSoto County, Theresa Gillespie Isom is preparing to take her background as a nurse, educator and administrator to the state capitol.
The newly elected senator for Mississippi’s District 2, which covers parts of DeSoto and Tunica counties, has identified three key priorities for her first legislative session: school funding, affordable health care and Medicaid expansion.
