It was a championship 60 years in making.
Led by an MVP performance from senior guard Jordan Frison, the Overton basketball team won the Class 4A state championship in Murfreesboro. The Wolverines defeated McMinn County in the quarterfinals and Hillsboro in the semis before topping Independence, 69-57, in the final.
It’s the first state championship for Overton, which made its only other tournament appearance in 1963.
Douglass advanced to the Class 2A title game but was denied by a late Alcoa basket and fell, 59-58.
