The Memphis Grizzlies’ 2023-24 season has come to a close, and not soon enough. One day after it ended with a home loss Sunday to the Denver Nuggets that capped a disappointing 27-55 run, The Daily Memphian was there to report on all that was said as player exit interviews were conducted and lockers were cleaned out. Just two days after he took time out Saturday to get married, Drew Hill wrote on everything you should know about what general manager Zach Kleiman, injured star Ja Morant and others had to say. Chris Herrington checked in with columns breaking down the pressure that comes with rebounding from such a rough season along with, published Tuesday, a fan’s guide to the NBA playoffs. And Parth Upadhyaya reported on young GG Jackson II’s summer plans. Before the wedding, Hill wrote about both Jackson playing the drums at a special service after 57 members of the South Carolina church where his father is the pastor took a late-season bus trip to Memphis to watch GG play and about all that went into big man Brandon Clarke’s return from an Achilles tendon tear. And Herrington counted down the 27 best moments from the Grizzlies’ season — trimmed down from his usual list of 50, for obvious reasons. Meanwhile, as the Memphis Tigers prepare for Saturday afternoon’s annual spring football practice finale at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, Frank Bonner wrote about how players feel about the much-awaited upcoming release of the new EA Sports College Football 25 video game. Upadhyaya also wrote about what incoming American Athletic Conference commissioner Tim Pernetti had to say during his introductory news conference Thursday. And the staff had you covered with all you need to know about the Tigers basketball team’s offseason, including reporting from Upadhyaya, a column from John Martin and a tracker from Tim Buckley on Memphis’ recent NCAA transfer portal activity that will be updated in upcoming days, weeks and months. Finally, on the preps front, John Varlas delivered some super coverage from the Houston Track Classic, one of the biggest meets of the season. Here’s a look at some of the staff’s top work from the week: — Deputy sports editor Tim Buckley
