Welcome to this week’s Tigers Basketball Insider. Below you’ll find the latest news and analysis from The Daily Memphian’s Steven Johnson, John Martin and Geoff Calkins.
It feels like the NBA draft was just yesterday, but teams across the league are already almost done with one session of Summer League games.
One former Tiger has been making the most of his opportunities so far.
Lester Quinones, who went undrafted yet signed a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors, has been one of the leading scorers at the California Classic in Las Vegas.
Quinones scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Warriors loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.
It was a strong bounce back game for Quinones, who has started both games for Golden State.
Now at 13.0 points per game, Quinones is tied for being the fifth-leading scorer at the classic.
The Warriors were one of the many teams that the former Tiger worked out for and he made an impression. The fact that he’s continued that in a game setting should help his chances of potentially making the roster.
Golden State wraps up the classic with a matchup with the Heat Tuesday at 2 p.m.
