Welcome back to your Grizzlies Insider, where we deliver the latest NBA news and analysis straight to your inbox.

The University of Incarnate Word has a new basketball coaching staff and the small Texas private catholic school (at least in part) has Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaren Jackson Jr. to thank.

One of the Cardinals’ new assistant coaches is Jackson’s father, Jaren Jackson Sr.

The fit makes perfect sense.

Incarnate Word is located in San Antonio, the city where Jackson Sr. played professionally for four seasons. He has a special connection with the place, which dates back to when he won the 1999 title with the Spurs. It was the first ever for the franchise.

“First of all, it’s great to be back in San Antonio,” Jackson Sr. said at his introductory press conference a couple weeks ago. “This is going to be an incredible journey.”
