The planned redesign of Tom Lee Park hit a roadblock last week when a group called “Tom Lee Park for All” filed a lawsuit claiming a breach of contract over parking issues.

The suit names the city of Memphis and the Memphis River Parks Partnership, which defends the planned redesign and says the parking arrangement is part larger changes that will include increased pedestrian crossings.

Also last week, the controversial issue of allowing Memphis police officers to live outside the city limits was delayed by the City Council until April to see if the Tennessee General Assembly takes action that would ban residency requirements.

The legislature begins its annual session in Nashville this week.

And a suspect emerged in the shooting death of rapper Young Dolph. Authorities offered a $15,000 reward for information about suspect Justin Johnson, who indicated on social media that he would turn himself in to authorities Monday.

In court action, state Sen. Katrina Robinson was granted an acquittal on two of four wire fraud charges against her, but a request for acquittal or a new trial on the other two charges was denied.

Finally, reporter Bill Dries took an in-depth look at the pay of Memphis police officers in comparison to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and suburban police departments in the county. - Metro editor Ron Maxey
