Lead Business Reporter
Have a passion for writing about entrepreneurs, how business deals come together, earnings reports and EBITDA? The Daily Memphian is looking for a veteran business reporter to join our team.
The perfect candidate would have a strong background in business journalism and be able to break news, develop local sources and write clear, concise stories that cut through industry jargon. Since The Daily Memphian is a daily digital publication, the lead business reporter is expected to file a mixture of shorter and more in-depth stories covering business in Memphis and the Mid-South each week.
Applicants should have at least five years of newsroom experience and be willing to relocate to Memphis if they don’t already live in the area. Reliable transportation is necessary. The reporter must also frequently engage with the local business community as well as spend time in the newsroom regularly to interact with editors and other staffers.
To apply, please send a cover letter, resume and at least three clips to mcashiola@dailymemphian.com.
Legislative Reporter
The Daily Memphian is seeking a Nashville-based freelance/contract reporter to cover the upcoming 2025 Tennessee legislative session.
The optimal candidate has a background in government or political journalism and can easily recognize important developments as they unfold around them, specifically as those legislative developments relate to the City of Memphis and its citizens.
We are looking for impartial and objective reporting. The reporter should also understand deadlines and be able to write quickly and clearly. Knowledge of AP style is a huge plus.
They should also be familiar with Shelby County’s delegation and be able to call on those elected officials to further develop stories.
The contract reporter would be expected to file two to three stories each week while lawmakers are in session. Pay will be commensurate with experience.
To apply, please send a cover letter, resume and at least three clips to mcashiola@dailymemphian.com.
