President Donald Trump’s new round of tariffs took effect July 24. Some trade experts say Memphis has already started feeling the effects.

FedEx is planning to expand its operations at the airport with an $18.1 million addition to its international freight facilities, according to a permit.

IP reported $6 billion in net sales, falling short of expectations and showing an 11.3% year-over-year decline. Overall, the company lost $12 million in the second quarter, or 2 cents per share.

FedEx announced it is laying off almost 150 workers at two facilities in the St. Louis area.

Facility closures are scheduled to take place Aug. 3.

The two selections round out the picks for a new board following a change in state law, pending a lawsuit originating in Nashville. 

A new state law changes who selects members of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority board of commissioners, but has been contested in federal court. 

The company is renovating the facility to support customers in the data center infrastructure market.

After Amazon announced its expansion of its logistics services, experts said the market might have overreacted. FedEx, UPS, DHL and the other Memphis logistics companies bet on resilience.

The route starts this summer.
