Sunday is expected to be busier than heaviest Christmastime travel day. Memphis International Airport officials warn to plan ahead.

The closures are expected to begin at 8 a.m. and last the full day of their respective date.

For two decades, the city’s return on its investment into the overnight river cruise industry has gone up and down — and it looks to be falling again.

“We have a snow operations desk that was open throughout the entire week. It’s an all-hands-on-deck approach,” airport spokesman Glen Thomas said of the airport authority’s roughly 300 total employees. Many slept at the airport during the week. 

The additional flights, though seasonal, will give Memphis International Airport more connectivity to the western part of the U.S. 

The service will operate three days a week from March 7 to April 9.

Funds will be divided between three local airports, with the lion’s share going to Memphis International Airport’s terminal modernization project.

There’s an industry push for planes only requiring one pilot in the cockpit at cruising altitudes, but pilots say doing so creates a safety issue.

The University of Memphis’ Center for Applied Earth Science has hired a professor known for using data to guide long-term planning for infrastructure.

The airport’s deicing facility is active, and airlines are performing deicing operations as needed.

The project, which will be built at the 3,600-acre Chickasaw Trails Industrial Park on the Mississippi-Tennessee state line, is pending approval by Mississippi officials, sources said.

Airport Authority officials are monitoring the weather and will activate the consolidated deicing facility or deploy snow and ice removal equipment if expected winter precipitation arrives.

The airport will offer comprehensive tours on the last Thursday of the month, March through October.

Airport advises travelers to arrive two hours before flights, especially for early-morning departures.

The longtime employee was killed when she saw an envelope sticking out of a container and hurried to grab it, according to inside sources at FedEx and the attorney representing her family.

“Once this service is in operation, much of the country will be accessible by rail from Memphis,” said U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn. “This is a very big deal.”

A food tour revealed that, with a mix of Memphis-based brands and familiar chains, the airport is trying to have a little something for everyone.

Within the contiguous U.S., temperatures have risen by 2.5°F since 1970, compared to a global average rise of about 1.7°F over the same period.
