The National Ornamental Metal Museum announced Thursday, May 28, a phased reopening plan designed to keep visitors safe.

The grounds will open to members on Thursday, June 4, and to all visitors on Thursday, June 11.

New visitor hours will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday to Saturday.

“The Metal Museum staff has been busy during the closure, creating an array of digital content to bring the Metal Museum experience into the home,” Carissa Hussong, the museum’s executive director, said in a release. “But we have also been looking forward to reopening and enhancing the visitor experience onsite, starting with an audio tour of the sculpture on the grounds.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the museum and are grateful for the support of our members and the Memphis community,” she said.

Members and guests planning to visit the museum should know:

  • Only the museum grounds are open.
  • No bathrooms will be available for public use.
  • The number of guests admitted to the grounds will be monitored and limited, if needed, to adhere to protocols provided by the City of Memphis.

The museum will require:

  • All visitors over the age of 2 to wear masks while on the grounds.
  • Groups of six or less.
  • Groups to remain six feet or more apart from other groups.
  • Visitors must stay home if feeling sick or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19.
  • No engaging in unnecessary physical contact.

The Museum Store is available for purchases online or by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, contact Alicia George at alicia@metalmuseum.org.

All classes and special events are cancelled until further notice.
