Coronavirus: Fewer than 90 new cases, no new deaths

The Shelby County Health Department reported fewer than 90 new coronavirus cases on Monday, May 17 and no new coronavirus-related deaths.
The 83 cases come from 1,429 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 5.8%.
Shelby’s reported coronavirus total is now 97,613 cases, including 94,569 inactive cases, 1,398 active cases and 1,646 deaths.
The latest area hospital capacity figures publicly available were current as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 12.
At that time, there were 220 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.
According to the HRTS, 91% of area ICU and 93% of area acute care beds were in use.
About 22% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (73) or suspected of having the novel coronavirus (2). About 9% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (147) or suspected of having the novel coronavirus (24).
And 35 area ICU and 174 area acute care beds were available.
Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.
The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.
