A 15,000-square-foot building with a soundstage is proposed in Whitehaven “for young adults in Memphis for acquiring positions in the movie and television industry.”

That’s according to a new application to the Land Use Control Board for the development on 2.1 acres at the southeast corner of Dolan and Lakeview roads.

The site is just over a mile west of Graceland and about four miles north of where BLP Film Studios plans an 85-acre film studio.

About Town: Film lot, new Y could create economic spark in Whitehaven

Self+Tucker Architects filed the application for the planned development on behalf of Whitehaven Dolan Road Property Development.

“The program is to develop a new 15,000 SF educational building in Whitehaven consisting of a 7,000-square-foot soundstage, administration offices, classrooms, dining hall & kitchen and related service areas,” the letter of intent states.

“The project is in the beginning stages of design and therefore we have not developed a list of professional consultants other than our firm at this time,” Robert J. Fountain of Self+Tucker Architects states in the letter.

“The project will be designed to meet both the client’s needs and have limited impact on adjacent properties thru the use of low impact construction techniques, green building practices and well-buffered site design,” the letter states.
