David Wayne Brown, executive director of CrimeStoppers, called the new awards “Spotlight Awards,” which were made possible by $85,000 in donations from anonymous Memphians.
Buddy Chapman, 83, is calling it all quits. He will step down as the leader and face of CrimeStoppers effective April 1.
Chapman said he continued to work past the typical retirement age of 65 because he loved what he was doing.
“Unquestionably, the level of crime in Memphis is unacceptable. But we will never be able to bring it under control by having police be meaner than the criminals.”
“I’m committed for our police department to do what we can, not just to be reactive and responsible, but also to be proactive to keep children out of the hands of the justice system,” MPD Chief C.J. Davis said.
Since June, the MFD has responded to eight different fires in a neighborhood on the eastern side of Coro Lake.
