The former officer pleaded guilty in federal court in November 2023 to using excessive force against Nichols and conspiring to witness tamper after his beating. He also agreed to plead guilty to some of his charges in state court.
The sentencing dates come less than a month after Bean, Haley and Smith were acquitted of all charges at the state level.

Desmond Mills Jr., who pleaded guilty last November for his role in Tyre Nichols’ death, is asking the federal court to delay his sentencing to allow “the defense additional time to prepare.”
“‘The radio sounds better than how the camera looks,’” Desmond Mills Jr. recalled Lt. Dewayne Smith saying of the Nichols footage.
Desmond Mills Jr. testified Wednesday he was afraid of telling the truth because, “I’d be sitting in the exact seat I’m sitting in now.”

“I’m hoping that for Mr. Mills it was his conscience that allowed him to make this plea agreement and not because of his lawyers telling him it was the right thing to do,” RowVaughn Wells said.
The five are defendants in both the criminal and civil cases.
