Glenn Rogers Sr. was the first Black Memphis Tigers football player. Now a street alongside Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium is named in his honor.

“It’s a major honor,” Rogers said. “I never expected nothing like that to be in my historical background. But it definitely is a good feeling.”
In September of last year, the Memphis athletic department launched its trailblazers initiative to honor each sport’s first Black athlete to play for the Tigers.
Glenn Rogers Sr. will be an honorary captain for Memphis at the game, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 10 at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
