When considering a request for $12 million for Youth Villages’ Memphis Allies program, the state Senate’s Finance, Ways and Means committee cut $1.75 million from four other Memphis nonprofits.

“I’m committed for our police department to do what we can, not just to be reactive and responsible, but also to be proactive to keep children out of the hands of the justice system,” MPD Chief C.J. Davis said.
The organization is hosting a free MAMA’s (Memphis Allies Mother’s Appreciation) Day lunch Saturday at Legacy Impact Community Resource Center, 2285 Frayser Blvd., from noon to 2 p.m.
