Thanks to a $130,000 grant, education classes will continue remotely for inmates at the Shelby County Correctional Center.
Shelby County Health Department reported 190 new cases, the largest increase since April 24. “As things are now, based on the trends that we see now ... I do not think we can move into Phase 3 right now,” health officer Dr. Bruce Randolph said.
Shelby County Health Department confirmed 50 new cases Wednesday, May 27, as testing numbers decreased to 821. Eight new deaths from the virus were reported Wednesday.
Last week, Mayor Harris said that the county planned to do a testing surge in early June for all inmates and employees at the corrections center and at the Shelby County Jail at 201 Poplar.
