State trial date for four officers in Nichols case postponed

After William Skelton’s one-year diversion, his case will be dismissed, and he will be eligible for expungement.
“The bottom line is we don’t like to separate trials because they cost more money, they take more time and you inconvenience more people,” said Hank Fradella, a professor at Arizona State University.
Files newly eligible for public release include 24 hours of video, audio, reports and personnel files of up to 17 City of Memphis employees related to the indictment and investigation.
A judge is slated to issue an order by the end of next week allowing for the public release of additional video, audio, reports and personnel files related to the Tyre Nichols case.
During the hearing, Shelby County Criminal Court Division 3 Judge James Jones Jr. set a Sept. 15 date to consider motions from three of the officers who are asking for separate trials.
Jones, elected last August, has been disciplined for writing character letters for defendants in a Florida wire fraud case.
