SkyCop cameras have cost Memphis more than $10 million since 2010, but a Daily Memphian analysis shows the city experienced more crime with a vast camera system than without it, and cameras rarely help criminal investigations.
The various Shelby County law enforcement agencies will oversee implementation of a new security camera program for the county, according to a resolution approved Monday by the County Commission to establish program guidelines.
With the funding in place to put security cameras in every Shelby County Commission district, officials are still trying to figure out how to do it.
