“We are proud and honored to receive this funding, which we hope will be instrumental in retaining newly graduated nurses in areas with nursing and health care gaps,” the dean of UTHSC’s College of Nursing said.
Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center will receive the Exemplary Academic-Practice Partnership Award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.
To address the nationwide nursing shortage and increase diversity in the nursing profession, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s College of Nursing has doubled its number of partner schools in the region.
The new center honors the legacy of internationally known nurse theorist Margaret A. Newman, a native Memphian and UTHSC alumna and former faculty member who died in 2018.
Adding a rural system allows UTHSC to schedule residencies and rotations in the settings where many will be serving.
