A use for the long-vacant Rite Aide building is under consideration by Southaven, but aldermen have concerns about the uses for the larger section of the redsigned space.
The site, which is within walking distance of Silo Square and Snowden Grove Park, borders the northern boundary of the recently approved mixed-use development Crossover.
The master plan for Crossover — a mixed development between Getwell and Snowden Lane — received the unanimous blessing from Southaven officials this week.
If the proposed hotel isn’t under construction at the end of those two years, the permit will expire.
Planning Director Whitney Choat-Cook described Crossover’s master plan as possessing a “modern, millennial-like design” with amenities that set the project apart from its mixed-use neighbor Silo Square.
The Southaven Planning Commission endorsed the site plan for a new coffee kiosk and drive-thru location, a plan that goes to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen for final approval.
“We have a great market, but we’re in a situation where we need to slow it down a little bit because we can get overdone in this area.”
