The utility expects the average customer will end up paying about $90 less this year as compared with last year, but January’s bills aren’t yet trending in that direction.
According to a statement from Mayor Ken Adams’ office, record low temperatures and icy conditions throughout the region have stressed all utility systems, and roads have become almost impossible to navigate.
“I cannot guarantee that nothing will happen,” Doug McGowen, president and CEO of Memphis Light, Gas and Water said. “But I can guarantee that we’re much better prepared than we were last winter.”
During a MLGW board meeting Wednesday, CEO Doug McGowen indicated that load forecasting would be part of the TVA review, “because there were some real issues to talk about there.”
Memphians who live below the poverty line were left without the ability to pay for damages, hotel stays and the replacement of groceries following the winter storm Thursday, Feb. 3.
