The revamped NICU is the first step in Le Bonheur’s larger, four-story, $95 million expansion.
Construction is expected to begin early next year and be completed by mid-summer.
New upgrades, including expanded capacity and cutting-edge technology, are a draw to Le Bonheur’s Heart Institute, which has hired 24 new cardiologists over the last five years to care for the program’s growing number of patients.
The $95 million project includes 128,575 square feet of construction and renovation that will add four floors to the west side of the hospital in the Memphis Medical District.
Patients will have the opportunity to host their own radio and TV shows, play games, watch live musical performances and interview celebrity guests.
Located on the hospital’s lawn, the greenspace includes a shaded pavilion for families, prayer labyrinth, wind chime installation and a serenity garden featuring works of art.
Dr. Jennifer Snow will serve as the first chief medical officer and system director of pediatrics at The Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital, located on the same campus as Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women.
